Agriculture
Egyptian agriculture was very famous because of their variety of crops and animals. Most of their farming were made in large fields close to the river Nile as the soil there was a black soil, very rich soil. The workers were slaves and the villagers who owned the plantation fields. These were the fases of the Nile wich Egyptians divided to plant their crops. Akhet, Peret and Shemu. Akhet was when all the plantation fields were flooded and most of the people who worked on crops went to work on pyramids. At this time also the Egyptians would look for animals and sharpen their tools. Peret was when the waters were at a lower state leaving behind rich soil for the Egyptians to plant their crops. Shemu was when the Egyptians harvested their crops right before the Nile flooded once again. The Eguptians also used the Shemu period to repair and build canals for the next flood. The items they used to collect crops were winnowing scoops, rakes, flint bladed sickles, hoes and ploughs.
Animals
Cats
The cats were really important to Ancient Egypt because they were a symbol of gods. They also belived that cats would guarde there children and their homes. The domesticated cats was a symbol of grace because of the way they hunt their prey, it could be so incredeble that they started to think cats had magical powers. The cats were so important people used them as an inspiration on their art and sculptures.
Scarab Beetle
The Egyptians believed that Scarabs were connected with the Egyptian god, Khepr. It was Khepri that pushed te sun across the sky, just like a Scarab bettle would roll a ball. The sacrab beetle turned the symbol of rebirth, the ability to be reborn. Each day the sun went away to always rise again and be reborn the following day. The Scarab Beetle became a symbol of rebirth after dead. When the Egyptians mummified a body they would remove the heart and put it in a stone carved like the beetle in it’s place.
Crocodiles
The Egyptions respected and feared the power of the crocodile. The nile, which was full of crocodiles, was important to the job of the Egyptions. It therefore made good sense to have a god which could destroy ferocious beasts. Crocodiles would stand for the gods called Sobek, because of its strenght and nature of a crocodile, which Egyptians would be feared and respected, he was a symbol of the Pharaoh’s power.
Hippos
The hipppos were a danger to all boats on the river nile, and to people near to the river nile. Egyptians feared them because of their gigantec mouth, teeths and their size. However, Egyptians also saw them as a symbol of rebirth. The hippo is represented in the godess Tauret, who was believed to protects woman in their child’s birth.
Farmer
Animals were very important to Egyptians farmers. Animals helped them with jobs like trampling in the seeds, pulling the plough, eating unwanted grain or wheat and providing the Egyptians food and drink. They kept animals such as cattle, goat, pigs, ducks, cows and geese.
Food
The Egyptians had variety of different options for food so they also had lots of food. Their main crop that they grew was the grain. Using the grain they could make beer, porridge, bread and etc. and that made them have good food as they planted close to the Nile river having always a good options for land. The kings always had the best food of all and he ate as mucha as he wanted, and What he wanted. He was like the boss of all while the others got limited food, expecially the slaves that basically got no food. Ancient Egypt was all focused on their king and their Gods. They always thought that their Gods brought everything for them and if they suddenly stop having food it was a reason for the God of the Nile have done it, they never thought it was about the slaves, but always about something within their community that was irritating the gods.
Reflection (group)
I think thet our group extended ou learning about the ancient Egypt, not only in the good sides and the parts we researched, but into the bad parts end their agriculture, farming and animals were. When we started all this, we did not know about it and now we know a lot more than before, so we basically extended our research into a bigger knowledge than we had before, and that is very good for us as kids, to know a lot. We had also some problems at the start to get everything together, but in the end we did it. I think know for the whole group that we liked to research about this topic. But me as Guilherme I love any type of history, so i REALLY enjoyed everything I did.
